Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. Recalls Certain Imported Lexus LX470 Vehicles
[July 29, 2010, Beijing] Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. has announced the recall of certain imported Lexus LX470 vehicles due to a defect in the steering device, beginning August 27th, 2010. The production dates of the affected vehicles are 2002/5/6 – 2007/8/8. According to TMCI's calculations, 1,123 units of the LX470 vehicles will be involved in the recall in Mainland China.
The defect is due to an improper connection in the structure of the steering shaft. When these vehicles drive across large obstacles, the fixed part of the steering shaft may break away. If the steering wheel is repeatedly operated in the full lock position, the shaft may also break away, and under such circumstances, the steering system would become dysfunctional, thus posing a safety risk.
TMCI will send notification letters directly to owners of the vehicles involved. Owners are requested to contact the local dealer to make an appointment for repairs. As soon as all required spare parts are prepared, qualified technicians will inspect the steering shaft, and replace and install relevant components for the affected vehicles at no charge.
Customers are free to contact the Lexus customer service center at 800-810-2772 or 400-810-2772 for more information.
