Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. to Recall Certain Imported Lexus RX300 and RX350 Models
[February 25, 2011, Beijing] Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (TMCI) filed a report with the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) recently to recall certain imported RX300 and RX350 models beginning March 23, 2011, due to the floor carpet cover's possible interference with the gas pedal. In total, the recall will involve 5,202 vehicles on the China market manufactured between February 2003 and July 2006.
The reason for the recall is that, due to improper installation, the drivers' side floor carpet cover may lean towards the accelerator and interfere with the pedal's support arm. As a result, the accelerator may fail to return to its original position, which is a potential safety hazard. TMCI has decided to recall all vehicles affected and replace the old floor carpet covers with differently-shaped ones.
TMCI will send notification letters directly to the owners of involved vehicles. Owners are requested to contact their local Lexus dealer as early as possible to make an appointment for replacement. After necessary preparations, professional technicians will replace the floor carpet covers free of charge to eliminate any safety hazards. TMCI will also replace other vehicles recalled globally free of charge.
